Description

This is your standard Electrode set. Electrode is the fastest Pokemon in the game, making it the single best Spore user and unquestionably the best mon in the metagame. This is because Spore has 99.6% accuracy and affects all Pokemon, including Grass-Types (in RBY, due to a coding error, all “100% accurate” moves have a 1/256 chance of missing). The way the Sleep mechanic works in RBY is unique - when a Pokemon wakes up, it takes its entire turn waking up, rather than being able to use a move. Thus, as long as Electrode outspeeds you, it will always go first and put you back to sleep after you wake up, and as long as you take an entire turn waking up, you will never be able to do anything other than use Quick Attack. The filler can be a few things, although Recover is the recommended choice, due to it shutting down any attempts to chip Electrode down with Quick Attack. Quick Attack is another option if you are running a Quick Attack spam team, although this is not recommended due to the entire teamstyle being dependent on Electrode not running Recover.

Usage Tips

You want to lead with your Electrode and hope to win the speed tie when you face another Electrode. Once you put them to sleep, use Agility so that you will always go first, even if the opposing Electrode wakes up. Chip the opponent down with Seismic Toss, and any time the opponent wakes up, use Spore again and resume chipping with Seismic Toss.

Counters & Checks

Nothing truly checks Electrode. Your best bet is either hoping for the 1/256 miss with Spore at the right moment. Chansey spam teams are the best at fishing for this, although this strategy is still entirely dependent on a 1/256 chance.

You can also try chipping it down with Quick Attack. However, Quick Attack teams are entirely dependent on Electrode not running Recover, which is considered the optimal fourth move for it.
